Actually, MLK in his Doctoral thesis did plagiarize a lot of the thesis. A committee in the 80s from his university found that. They did indicate that most likely that it was inadvertent but just like everyone the more times that past the more information comes out about people. It doesn't negate what he did for civil rights, but no one is without stain.

It is also interesting that Mr Zalkin is nowhere to be found when these cases settle for less than what he expected or when his cases fall apart and are dismissed. He is very good at calling press conferences when he files suit but when they fall apart he is nowhere to be found.
We have sites like Watchtower Documents and JWSurvey who says that they are in constant contact with Mr Zalkin. But it wasn't through him that this news was found or when the Lewis case was dismissed. This case was in fact settled as of December the 15th. No matter how noble the cause he is fighting he is still a lawyer who is taking these cases on contingency where he has a duty to make as much money for him and his firm that he can and to pull in as many potential clients as possible. That includes if he has to go out and find people to be plaintiffs even if they don't want to be reminded of those events. In this case, Mr Lopez admitted that he was only reminded of these events when Mr Zalkin investigator hunted him down and brought up those reports.

Governing Body pre-'70s: All Shareholders?
by neat blue dog ini used to think that before the governing body was introduced in the 1970's as we know it today, that they used that term for the 7-member board of directors.
but the article written by milton henschel in the '50s that was just posted showed another angle.
apparently all shareholders were the "governing body" and the board was their representative, just like later they would say that all anointed ones were the faithful slave and the gb was their representative.. the governing body at present has 402 members, who reside in 29 countries and elect seven ministers as a board of directors.

Neat Blue Dog: At least in the portion of the article that you supplied it doesn't say, shareholder, it says member which is consistent with the corporate papers that were filed in 1945. You are the one that used the term shareholder.
While yes a non-profit can have shareholders and Watchtower did have that up till 1944 doesn't mean that it is the correct term following the change in 1945.

Actually just read the corporate set up from Barbara Anderson site. Prior to 1945 those members were considered shareholders because a contribution of 10 dollars allowed for 1 share of non monetary portion of the corporation. But in 1945 it was changed to the term member. And it set a limit of 500 members and no fewer than 300 members.

Leah Remini on Paul Higgis accusations
by John Davis ini was wondering what people think of leah remini's comments on the paul higgins accusations.
she has said that the 5 women that have accused him of rape and sexual harassment are not to be trusted.
she says that because 3 of them want to stay anonymous that must mean that they are not accurate statements.

A shareholder is an inaccurate statement. They were and still are voting members of the corporation. The term shareholder would indicate that someone owns stock in a corporation. Back then and currently the voting members don't own stock or have any profit sharing in the corporation. The members are voted in by the other members of the corporation every 6 years. It is just like how any other non-profit organization corporate structure.

In the Conti case there was not a settlement it was following the appeal. The appeals court ruled that the final amount was just a little over 2 million. -

As for the Conti case. The case went to verdict and the jury awarded 23 or 28 million. The judge upon review lowered it to 13 million I think. The case was then appealed to the 1st district court of appeals. The court ruled that Watchtower had no duty to warn nor a duty to protect because there is no fiduciary responsibility between congregants and Watchtower. The court of appeals found that there was enough evidence that a jury could find guilty that abuse occurred during congregation sponsored events and awarded Conti 2+ million. The court found that it is only during sponsored events can Watchtower be held liable for the actions of others if those actions occurred under the direction of a watchtower agent, such as in the Conti case where an elder assigned Kendrick to be in service with Conti.
Even in the instant case, Zalkin was spending so much time to prove that the abuse occurred during "Bible Study" because that would be a sponsored event. Lopez testimony was not clear and was, in fact, contradicting himself because it wasn't clear what the activities were occurring when the abuse happened.

It is 1000 since the files became property of CCJW and not Watchtower. It was since there was a change in the corporate structure. I think it is somewhere between 1000 and 1200 is the number.
